Eagles Place Jay Ajayi On IR

The Philadelphia Eagles have placed running back Jay Ajayi on injured reserve after the veteran rusher tore his ACL and will miss the remainder of the season.

Ajayi had been playing with a fracture in his back and the timing of these injuries couldn’t have come at a worse time for the 25-year old who is in a contract year, and has had to battle numerous injuries even back to his college playing days.

In a corresponding move, the Eagles signed defensive tackle T.Y. McGill to take Ajayi’s spot on the roster.

Falcons’ Calvin Ridley Suffers Bone Bruise

The Atlanta Falcons are breathing a sigh of relief after an MRI on the injured left ankle of rookie wide receiver Calvin Ridley came back clean, leading the team to believe that he simply has a bone bruise.

According to Vaughn McClure of ESPN, Ridley’s status for their Week 7 game against the New York Giants is currently up in the air, and the Falcons will me monitoring how he responds to rehab ahead of next week’s Monday Night tilt.

Ridley is off to an impressive start to his career, hauling in 22 catches for 349 receiving yards and a league leading 6 receiving touhdowns.

Vikings Place Mike Hughes On IR

The Minnesota Vikings are placing first-round pick cornerback Mike Hughes on injured reserve after he tore his ACL during Minnesota’s Week 6 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, according to head coach Mike Zimmer.

The Vikings hope Hughes, whose rookie contract runs through the 2021 season with a fifth-year option in place for 2022, can be healthy in time for the start of the 2019 regular season as he will miss the remainder of this year.

Buccaneers Fire Mike Smith

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who are one of the NFL’s worst defenses thus far in the 2018 regular season, have  fired defensive coordinator Mike Smith following their Week 6 loss, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

Smith, who was made the NFL’s highest-paid DC after signing with the Bucs in 2016 following his stint as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, will be replaced, at least temporarily, by linebackers coach Mike Duffner, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

To illustrate just how bad the Bucs defense is, Tampa Bay is on pace to give up the most points in NFL history, according to Greg Auman of The Athletic.
