Falcons Sign Michael Bennett

The Atlanta Falcons have signed former Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Michael Bennett, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

In a corresponding move, the Falcons waived Justin Zimmer to create a spot on the roster for Bennett, who earned the job after the Falcons worked out edge rushers Robert Ayers and Kony Ealy in addition to Bennett.

Bennett was released by the Jaguars organization back in early September to open open a space on the roster for Dante Fowler.

Falcons’ Calvin Ridley Suffers Bone Bruise

The Atlanta Falcons are breathing a sigh of relief after an MRI on the injured left ankle of rookie wide receiver Calvin Ridley came back clean, leading the team to believe that he simply has a bone bruise.

According to Vaughn McClure of ESPN, Ridley’s status for their Week 7 game against the New York Giants is currently up in the air, and the Falcons will me monitoring how he responds to rehab ahead of next week’s Monday Night tilt.

Ridley is off to an impressive start to his career, hauling in 22 catches for 349 receiving yards and a league leading 6 receiving touhdowns.

Falcons’ Devonta Freeman Ready to Play Week 5

Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman has been out since Week 1 due to a knee injury he suffered during their season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, but says that he is more than ready to return in Week 5.

“I’m in-tune with my body and myself, so I know when I can be me,” Freeman said, according to ESPN’s Vaughn McClure. “Just getting back out there when I’m comfortable enough. I think right now, I’m comfortable enough to get out there. I feel good. I feel explosive. I’m ready to run.”

Freeman is a big part of the Falcons’ offense and has been sorely missed as the team has stumbled to a 1-3 start heading into their tilt against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“I feel good,” Freeman said. “I feel real good, excited, about being out here. Coming out doing something I love to do is always a good time. I’m just excited to be out here.”

Falcons Sign Bruce Carter, Sharrod Neasman

The Atlanta Falcons have signed veteran free agent linebacker Bruce Carter and veteran free agent safety Sharrod Neasman, according to an official team announcement that was released on Tuesday.

Carter has spent the past two seasons playing mostly special teams for the New York Jets, while Neasman, who has played for the Falcons in the past, will provide depth for a defensive backfield that lost Ricardo Allen for the year.

Atlanta could still kick the tires on safety Eric Reid, who remains on the free agent market.
