49ers To Sign Terence Garvin

The San Francisco 49ers are signing veteran linebacker Terence Garvin, who was cut by the Miami Dolphins during final roster cuts, according to NBC Sports Bay Area’s Matt Maiocco.

With Reuben Foster sidelined for one more game due to his suspension, Brock Coyle currently in the concussion protocol, and Malcolm Smith’s status questionable for their Week 2 game due to a hamstring issue, the Niners needed linebacker depth.

Garvin will provide that, along with special teams experience.

The Detroit Lions have re-signed cornerback DeShawn Shead, who was cut during final roster trim downs, according to a team announcement.

Shead will provide some depth in the wake of starting cornerback Darius Slay’s concussion.

Shead was a full-time starter during the 2016 season for the Seattle Seahawks, but a knee injury he suffered during a playoff game against the Atlanta Falcons knocked his career off track for a while.

The Cincinnati Bengals have signed veteran running back Thomas Rawls, according to a team announcement.

In a corresponding move, the Bengals have waived/injured running back Tra Carson.

With starting running back Joe Mixon temporarily on the shelf due to a knee issue, Rawls will provide depth, alongside rookie Mark Walton, as Giovanni Bernard takes over lead back duties until Mixon returns.

The Minnesota Vikings released veteran defensive lineman David Parry, according to an official team announcement.

Parry’s release opens up an available roster spot for newly signed veteran defensive tackle Tom Johnson, who was recently released by the Seattle Seahawks.

Parry played in both of the Vikings’ regular season games this season, recording 1 sack along the way. It is likely that Parry will latch on to a team seeking depth along the interior of their defensive line during his stint in free agency.
