Bears Sign Khalil Mack to Historic Contract Extension

After acquiring him in a trade with the Oakland Raiders on Saturday, the Chicago Bears have agreed to terms on a six-year, $141M contract extension that includes $90M guaranteed and a $60M signing bonus, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Mack’s new deal tops the new deal signed by Aaron Donald with the Los Angeles Rams, as Mack will earn a $22.5 million annual average, slightly more than Donald’s.

Mack, 27, will instantly elevate the Chicago defense and will be the cornerstone of that unit for the next several years.

Bears Acquire Khalil Mack

The Chicago Bears have traded for Oakland Raiders linebacker Khalil Mack as the two sides have “agreement in place” as they work through the final details, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Chicago, who parted with two first round picks along with other assets, is expected to negotiate a long term deal with Mack that is expected to top the new contract the Los Angeles Rams gave Aaron Donald earlier this week, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

The deal for Mack is shocking to say the least and will be criticized for years to come as it will put head coach Jon Gruden under the microscope for trading one of the best, young defensive players in the NFL when a long-term deal could have been worked out.

Still, a haul of two first round picks is nothing to sneeze at, but the thought of the Raiders being so willing to trade away a young talent such as Mack will be hard for Raiders fans to come to terms with moving forward.
