Cowboys’ Orlando Scandrick Requests Release

Published

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick has requested his release, according to ESPN.com’s Todd Archer.

The Cowboys plan on trading or releasing the veteran defensive back, as the Star-Telegram’s Clarence Hill reported back in February.

“I’m prepared for whatever,” Scandrick said at the time of the report. “I’m still going to play football. I’m still a good football player when I’m healthy. We’ll see what happens. … I’m not at the point of my career where I’m willing to just be an inactive guy or a guy that’s not a part of what’s going on and can’t help the team win. I just want to play somewhere I can finish things out the right way.”

Dallas had previously targeted Kenny Vaccaro in a trad with the New Orleans Saints that did not go through.

While Dallas will save $1.4M by parting ways with Scandrick, they will eat $3.88M in dead money.

Following their blowout victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott considers their upcoming tilt against the Washington Redskins as a crucial game, saying a win over their division rivals is “absolutely mandatory”.

“We need to. I think it’s absolutely mandatory that we do,”Elliott said, according to the Star-Telegram. “That’s our focus this week is going into this game, having great communication and starting fast, putting points on the board.”

Elliott knows that stringing together back-to-back wins is important especially after their big win over Jacksonville.

“It was a game we needed,” Elliott said.

“I’ve said it before – if we don’t build on it, everything we did last week really means nothing.”
