Bucs Have Not Talked New Contract With Mike Evans

Published

on

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans is entering the final year of his deal, which comes with a $13.26M cap hit, so a new deal will certainly be a topic of discussion this offseason.

However, the Bucs and Evans’ representation have not discussed a new deal as of yet, according to Evans’ agent, Deryk Glmore, per Pewter Report’s Trevor Sikkema.

“We’re not doing any negotiating. We’re just going to wait and play it out,” agent Deryk Gilmore said. “We think that the Buccaneers are a great organization. We feel that they really care about Mike; they care about the direction of the franchise and where it’s going. … He’s under contract so what we like to do is let him finish up. We think [Evans’ stats and records] will speak for itself, and when it comes time to do the deal I think his deal will be in-line with what we plan.”

Tampa Bay may be waiting for the NFL Draft and free agency to both pass before they address a new contract for Evans.

Evans has been solid over the first 4 seasons of his career, reaching 1,000 yards in each season and earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2016.

The Minnesota Vikings released veteran defensive lineman David Parry, according to an official team announcement.

Parry’s release opens up an available roster spot for newly signed veteran defensive tackle Tom Johnson, who was recently released by the Seattle Seahawks.

Parry played in both of the Vikings’ regular season games this season, recording 1 sack along the way. It is likely that Parry will latch on to a team seeking depth along the interior of their defensive line during his stint in free agency.

The Philadelphis Eagles have signed free agent wide receiver Jordan Matthews, who they had in for a visit on Tuesday, according to an official team announcement.

In a corresponding move, the Eagles placed wide receiver Mike Wallace on injured reserve to create room on the roster for the addition of Matthews, who returns to the team after being traded to the Buffalo Bills prior to the 2017 season.
