Josh McDaniels Could Stay With Patriots, Colts Have Backup Plan In Place

Published

on

The Indianapolis Colts may not have a deal set in stone with New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to take the head coaching job in Indy after all.

According to a report on Sunday from Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, there is “increasing” buzz around the league that McDaniels may end up staying with the Patriots.

McDaniels apparently has not yet formally told the team that he is leaving waiting to see if current head coach Bill Belichick sticks around for another season. In the event that he does, McDaniels may stick around with a raise in salary as well as promises that he will be the next head coach for New England when Belichick does walk away.

As far as the Colts, Chiefs special teams coach Dave Toub is a name being mentioned as a backup plan should McDaniels stay with the Patriots. Toub did not formally interview for the Colts gig, but he is certainly in the Colts plans.

Jags’ Leonard Fournette, Jalen Ramsey, Others Remain Questionable

The Jacksonville Jaguars have a number of players on the mend, and running back Leonard Fournette and cornerback Jalen Ramsey are both questionable for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans, according to ESPN’s Michael DiRocco.

Fournette and Ramsey aren’t alone, as running back T.J. Yeldon, cornerback D.J. Hayden, and right guard A.J. Cann are all questionable as well.

Fournette will likely be a gametime decision.

“We’ve been playing a lot of tough games,” Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone said. “Players are doing the best job they can to get themselves ready to go, but we played a home opener in New York. We played a home opener here. Now we’ve got a divisional opponent.

“When you look at it a lot of teams are going through the same thing, just trying to keep everybody as healthy as they possibly can.”

The Cincinnati Bengals will be without rookie center Billy Price as he is dealing with a lower left leg injury, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer’s Paul Dehner Jr.

“Finally figured out what it was this morning,” Price said. “Last couple days was just trying to figure out what it is and what’s the plan going forward. They thought it was an ankle now turned to a foot, there wasn’t any swelling and it wasn’t Lisfranc, so just thankful for that. That’s great news.”

Price will be re-evaluated in two weeks by doctors.

Patriots Sign Corey Coleman To Practice Squad

The New England Patriots signed wide receiver Corey Coleman to their practice squad earlier this week, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

New England originally signed Coleman to its 53-man roster last week, but he was cut when the Patriots acquired Josh Gordon in a trade with the Cleveland Browns. The Pats then opted to add Coleman to their practice squad.

Coleman is close to being out of the NFL completely after his cut from the Buffalo Bills, following his bottoming out with the Cleveland Browns.
