Seattle Seahawks rookie defensive lineman Malik McDowell won’t play in 2017 after suffering a severe concussion during an ATV accident that occurred back in July.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll made the formal announcement to the media on Wednesday, according to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times.

Seattle drafted McDowell in the 2nd round of the 2017 draft and since he has spent his entire rookie campaign on the non-football injury list, his contract will toll and thus the Seahawks will now control his rights through 2021 instead of 2020.
