It’s scary to think that Defensive Player of the Year and Oakland Raiders star Khalil Mack can get any better than he already is.
But Mack, who has been dominant and has emerged as one of the NFL’s elite defensive players, says he has much more potential.
“I can get better,” Mack said, per The Undefeated’s Jason Reid. “I can get a whole lot better.”
Mack is striving to be great in the NFL and is setting the tone in Raiders camp as he works hard to improve.
“The one thing about this game, this game I love, is that there’s always something you can get better at. It’s just a question of how bad you want it,” Mack said.
“I look back at last year like, there’s a lot to improve. It’s about polishing up my game in every area. Man, there’s a lot of work to do.”
Mack had 11 sacks last season, one of only four players with at least 10 sacks and 5 forced fumbles, and if Mack can register double digit sacks in 2017, he will become the first Raiders player to notch at least 10 sacks in three straight seasons since Anthony Smith did it from 1991-1993.
“More than anything, it’s about getting prepared each week,” said Mack.
“Kind of getting into ‘The Zone,’ that’s really about preparation. You’ve got to know where you’re supposed to be and what you’re supposed to be doing. That starts early [in the week]. You can’t fake that, man. You either did your homework or you didn’t. Knowing the things you’re going to see, all season long, helps tremendously.”
Mack doesn’t just want to be great, he wants to be an all-time great.
“Man, it’s like this: I want to be one of the best who ever played,” Mack said. “That’s one of my goals. That’s not something you get after [three seasons].
“That’s something you have to work for your whole career. That’s what I work toward every day of my life.”
Get ready NFL, Khalil Mack is on a mission.
